Is cosmetic surgery safe?
No human activity is without risk or limitation. Fortunately, cosmetic surgery deals mostly with skin, fat, mammary glands, and sometimes muscles, and doesn't involve any major organs. For that reason, major complications are extremely rare and can be prevented most of the time. These are some preventive measures that you should begin two weeks before surgery. To avoid getting blood clots in your legs, stop taking birth control pills, stop smoking cigarettes, and after surgery, remain
active (avoid complete bed rest). To minimize bleeding during and after surgery,
avoid taking Aspirin or any ASA medication and most anti-inflammatory medications. You should also abstain from drinking alcohol and participating in strenuous activity during this time. If you are not in good medical condition, you probably should not have cosmetic surgery. Consult with your doctor.
Is it painful?
Most cosmetic procedures aren't very painful, and all pain can be controlled with appropriate medications. Amazingly, after many procedures, patients just experience discomfort rather than pain.
How long will the changes last?
The human body continuously changes, and so will any cosmetic improvements that deal with aging, The clock can be set back but cannot be stopped. On the other hand, a reshaped nose will keep its new silhouette forever. If you want perfection, you may have to refresh some cosmetic improvements over the years. However, most patients are satisfied with a single operation.
Is it guaranteed?
A small percentage of operations may need "touching up". No patient is ever left dissatisfied. Remember, though, that expectations must be realistic. No one can be totally changed but everybody can be improved. Perfection may not actually exist, but Dr Gilles Frenette always aims for results that are as close to perfection as possible.
