![]() Small implants of meticulous design can be implanted in the face to highlight cheekbones or to correct facial imbalance like a recessed chin or too narrow jaws. Nose implants are often used to correct Asian noses. These implants are made of different material: silicon, poly-ethylene, Goretex, etc. All these materials have been tested for many years, are inert, do not disintegrate in the human body and are well tolerated. Recent years have seen greater improvements in design than in use of new materials. This is a sign of satisfaction with the material itself.
Cheekbones are a major contribution to facial beauty. The mystery of a beautiful face is often linked to good cheekbones. Almost absent cheekbones or too little projection lead to the most frequent requests for this operation. Sometimes a long face would look rounder with more prominent cheekbones. Hollow cheeks can be rounded up with cheekbone implants. Different sizes and design are available to the surgeon for implantation. Zygoma arc (the bone from the ear to the cheekbone) can be enhanced, the cheekbone itself, the area below or all of the above. This operation can be done either under local or general anesthesia. It lasts less than an hour and doesn't cause pain. Swelling and minor bruising is gone in 7 to 10 days. Improvements to the Chin is also a major request from our patients. A chin recess, as long as it is not accompanied by a major teeth malocclusion, can be very easily corrected by a small implant. It is introduced through a small incision inside the lower lips. This operation is even less disturbing than the one for cheekbones, and most patients are back to work within a few days. The chin may be advanced, widened or have its height augmented. Prominent chin can also be corrected by burring out some bone. Chin alteration is often done at the same time as a nose reshaping. Together, they can result in a striking change to a patient's profile. Jaws are another area of the face that can be corrected through surgery. The angle of the lower jaws (just below the ear) is frequently augmented by an implant to give more width to the lower face. Introduced through incisions in the mouth, no scar is visible. In fact, any facial bone can be enhanced or reduced and Dr Frenette would be glad to explain all the possibilities after a thorough evaluation of your particular facial anatomy.
